A Gentle Journey into Tithing
Heart Behind It
For a long time I thought of tithing as just another bill. In a one income home every dollar has a purpose and I couldn’t fully grasp the thought of losing out on what could have been used to pay for something else. Everyone is in different financial situations and honestly talking about trusting God with sometimes all we have left can feel heavy and even uncomfortable.
But over time I’ve come to realize that tithing is not about money leaving my hands, it is about trust leaving my heart. It is me saying, “Lord, I honor You first, even when it doesn’t make sense on paper.”
I also had to let go of the mindset that “this is my money I earned.” The truth is that God is the One who provides the opportunities, the work, and the strength behind our income. Without Him we would not have the ability to succeed or provide for our families. Tithing is my way of remembering that what I have is not mine to cling to, but His to guide and multiply.
What Tithing Is and Isn’t
It is not a bill. Bills take from us but tithing is giving back to God with a grateful heart.
It is not about amounts. God doesn’t block blessings if you can’t give a perfect 10 percent. His blessings flow from His grace, not your wallet.
It is an act of trust. Each gift is a seed planted in faith that God can stretch what remains.
2 Corinthians 9:7 – Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
My Step-Up Tithing Plan
Why This Matters to Me
I do not believe God is in heaven with a calculator waiting to withhold blessings if we do not tithe perfectly. Instead I believe He is a loving Father who sees our hearts.
For me this plan is about shifting my perspective from fear of losing to faith in God’s provision. It is not always easy especially when the budget feels tight but I have seen how He stretches what remains and provides in ways I could not imagine.
Philippians 4:19 – And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Encouragement for You
If you have been wanting to tithe but feel nervous about finances know this. You do not have to jump straight into 10 percent. A step-up plan is a gentle way to build consistency while learning to trust God in every season.
God cares more about the posture of your heart than the percentage of your income. Start where you can, grow as you are able, and let each gift be an act of worship.
Tithing is not about what leaves your hand, it is about what fills your heart.
Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
